While the media likes to pretend that President Trump goes easy on Putin, nothing could be further from the truth. In an interview with Fox News, Trey Gowdy revealed how Obama was actually far softer on Russia than President Trump is.
“I think he’s done a hell of a lot better job [at standing up to Putin] than President Obama did,” said Gowdy.
“It wasn’t Donald Trump who laughed when Mitt Romney said Russia was our number one geopolitical enemy and it wasn’t President Trump who handed that awkward reset button to the Russians and it wasn’t President Trump who said on a hot mic, ‘I’ll have more flexibility in the second term.’ All of that was Obama,” said Gowdy.
Back in 2009, the Obama administration spoke extensively about resetting the relationship between the United States and Russia. Hillary Clinton even gave Russian Foreign Minister Sergey a gift.
“I would like to present you with a little gift that represents what President Obama and Vice President Biden and I have been saying and that is: ‘We want to reset our relationship, and so we will do it together,’” Clinton told Lavrov. Isn’t it interesting, that when President Trump says anything similar to this he is accused of collusion?
