Megyn Kelly was just left completely humiliated in front of the entire world when she was outwitted by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The New Yorker reported that after NBC released an hourlong edited version of Kelly’s interview with Putin over the weekend, the Kremlin released the complete unedited version, which told a very different story. The unedited version makes it clear that though Kelly desperately tried to pin down Putin on election meddling, the Russian president managed to evade her with ease.
“Why did you allow it?” Kelly asked of the supposed meddling in the U.S. election. Putin fired back by telling Kelly that she shouldn’t assume that he or anyone else in the Russian government knew what happened.
“Even if we suppose—I don’t know if they did something or not—but I simply know nothing about it,” he said. “It has nothing to do with the position of the Russian state.”
“You are up for reelection right now,” she said. “Should the Russian people be concerned that you don’t know what’s going on in your own country?”
“Look, the world is large and diverse,” he said. “Some Russian citizens have their own opinions about what’s going on in the United States . . . At the level of the President and the government of the Russian federation, there has never been and there is not now any meddling.”
With this response, Putin effectively said that he is far too important to worry about something as frivolous as American elections. Kelly feebly tried to protest again, but Putin wasn’t having any of it.
“I have no idea!” Putin said emphatically. “These are not my problems.”
In the end, even Kelly admitted afterwards that she was outwitted by Putin, whom she called “the smartest man in every room.” The experience was humiliating for Kelly, as it showed once again what a subpar interviewer she really is.
